Nearly 5,000 people participated in this year's Donor Dash at Washington Park in Denver this past weekend, an event dedicated to honoring and celebrating the lives impacted by organ, tissue, and eye donations.

CBS News Colorado's Michael Spencer served as emcee again this year and said the event "changes people's lives."

"Organ donation is something that's deeply personal to me," Spencer said. "My father-in-law was on the heart transplant list for a long time."

The event, held on Sunday morning, featured a 5K and activities for all ages -- including the popular Diaper Dash for the youngest participants.

Super Bowl Champion and former Denver Broncos player Ryan Harris comes to the event yearly to honor someone close to his heart.

"This is about my seventh year, and it's fun to see people year after year," he said.

"I'm here today in support of my father who has received two kidney transplants. One from his best friend and then the second one 25 years later from my wife's father. It really is a gift of life," said Harris.

CBS News Colorado is a proud sponsor of the event, and organizers thanked everyone who helped make the Donor Dash a success.
