Benedict Cumberbatch began this athletic training in 2015, for an hour a day every morning. The goal was to prioritize a long-term workout and diet that would keep his body in shape and thus avoid overly intense body changes that can prove dangerous to his health.

Benedict Cumberbatch was able to rely on one of his past personal experiences to prepare himself for the role of Stephen Strange. Indeed, a few years ago, during a sabbatical year, the actor spent a year volunteering in a Buddhist monastery. He decided to teach English there. He later explained that this enriching experience was obviously very beneficial in his approach to the character of Strange.
