The star was the lead actor in a series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie will play Captain America in a fourth film dedicated to the hero with the shield. The feature film has just found its director.
Since his debut in 2011, the character of Captain America has become one of the pillars of the MCU. Since then, the hero has appeared in several feature films from the House of Ideas, and his narrative arc led him to return to the past at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Before retiring, the character played by Chris Evans left his shield to Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon.
Now, the character played by Anthony Mackie has teamed up with the one played by Sebastian Stan in the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In this one, after much doubt about his legitimacy to become the new Captain America, Sam Wilson finally agreed to take over the shield and the role left by his friend. Last year, we learned that Marvel had decided to continue the narrative arc of the character with a fourth Captain America. And the latter has just found its director.
The newspaper, The Hollywood Reporter, assures that Marvel has decided to entrust the direction of Captain America 4 to Julius Onah. The director is best known for having directed The Cloverfield Paradox and Luce. Screened at Sundance, the latter film was acclaimed by critics and nominated in several categories at various festivals.
The director Onah will now take a step forward in his career by directing his first film with a very large budget. He will adapt the script by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, already behind the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series. As a reminder, Anthony Mackie will obviously reprise his role as Sam Wilson in Captain America 4. On the other hand, if some fans are still hoping to see Chris Evans as Steve Rogers again, nothing says that the actor will ever return to the MCU after the events of Endgame.
Marvel has not yet announced a release date for Captain America 4, but since the movie has just found its director, we will have to be patient before we can discover it.
