It’s a surprise because the film “The Bad Guys” has taken the lead in the North American box office for its release in theaters, according to provisional figures published Sunday, April 24 by the specialized firm Exhibitor Relations.

The outlaw animals trying to become good guys, directed by Dreamworks Animations, recorded 24 million USD for their first weekend in Canada and the United States.

The second place went to Sonic 2, with 15.2 million USD.

The sequel to the adventures of the blue hedgehog, Jim Carrey reprises his role as the evil, mustachioed Dr. Robotnik, who wants – quite simply – to destroy humanity, unless Sonic stops him…

It fell from the first position last week to the third: the last opus of the Fantastic Animals series, Dumbledore’s Secrets.

With this new series of the saga derived from the world of Harry Potter, centered on the struggle of Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) against the evil Gellert Grindelwald, played by Mads Mikkelsen in replacement of Johnny Depp, has earned 14 million USD in its second week of operation.

In fourth place, we find the adventure film The Northman, directed by Robert Eggers, collected 12 million USD for its release.

This feature film, starring Alexander Skarsgard and Nicole Kidman, tells the story of a Nordic prince’s quest to avenge his father’s death.

Rounding out the top 5, A Solid Gold Talent, starring Nicolas Cage, earned some 7.2 million USD in its first week of release.
