Jon Hamm decided it was time for him to join the Star Wars film, no less.
The new Hollywood star will next be in Top Gun: Maverick, which caused a stir at CinemaCon. Speaking to the press, Hamm, who almost played the role of Mister Sinister in the X-Men films, said he has few regrets about the roles he has missed in his career, but would still like to make his way into that galaxy far, far away.

“You know, I’ve been very lucky in my career and I’ll be the first to say that,” Hamm says at the Top Gun: Maverick press briefing. “I don’t have a lot of regrets.

There haven’t been a lot of movies that I’ve come close to being in that I would have liked to be in. The only franchise I ever wanted to be in that I never got to be in for one reason or another was Star Wars. For me, that was the first big movie, when I was six or seven years old, or whenever it came out, and I thought, “This is probably the biggest movie I’ve ever seen in my life that we’ll ever see.”

The closest he came to a Star Wars appearance was voicing Boba Fett in the From a Certain Point of View audiobook. In 2017, Hamm expressed his disappointment at not being able to secure a role in the franchise.

“My version of that is the Star Wars stuff,” Hamm said while speaking with Nick Offerman about his inability to join the Lord of the Rings franchise for BuzzFeed. “There’s been more Star Wars with more people in it. Where’s my phone call? I’ve been a nerf-herder. I know the lingo.”

In Top Gun: Maverick, “After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell is right where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a brave test pilot and avoiding the advancement in rank that would punish him.

As he trains a graduate detail for a special mission, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice of those who choose to fly it.”
