After almost two decades after the release of “Lord of War”, Nicolas Cage is about to reprise the role of Yuri Orlov, in a sequel still orchestrated by Andrew Niccol. The second part is in which the arms dealer will face his illegitimate son.
At the beginning of the new millennium, the star, Nicolas Cage lends his features to Yuri Orlov in Lord of War, the third feature film by Andrew Niccol (Welcome to Gattaca, S1m0ne). This arms dealer born in Soviet Ukraine and raised in the United States starts his business in the Little Odessa neighborhood in Brooklyn. Ignoring all the moral aspects of his profession, Yuri travels to the four corners of the world to sell his merchandise and finds himself with Jack Valentine (Ethan Hawke), an Interpol agent, on his tail.
Critics were unanimous in their praise of Nicolas Cage’s performance and he is set to reprise his role in a sequel entitled Lords of War. According to Variety, Andrew Niccol is back to write and direct. In this sequel, Yuri Orlov will see his illegitimate son Anton, played by Bill Skarsgård (This, John Wick: Chapter 4), try to outdo him in his professional life and show even more cruelty. The two men are expected to clash over a conflict in the Middle East.
Andrew Niccol said of the project:
‘There’s so much to explore with these characters. Plato said it best: “Only the dead have seen the end of the war. I’m looking forward to spending more time with the charming devil that is Yuri Orlov and now his illegitimate son – who turns out not to be legitimate at all.
It is clear that the war in Ukraine at the moment has favored the continuation of this film.
Filming for Lords of War is expected to begin in the fall of 2023. A release date has not yet been announced.
