An exclusive clip from the new French film Smoking Causes Coughing, which had its world debut at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, is now available on Screen Rant. Acclaimed filmmaker and writer Quentin Dupieux (Mandibles, Rubber) creates a comedic superhero squad called the Tobacco Force. Benzene (Gilles Lellouche), Nicotine (Anas Demoustier), Methanol (Vincent Lacoste), Mercury (Jean-Pascal Zadi), and Ammonia (Oulaya Amamra) don Power Ranger–style suits and battle foes to keep the world safe, but they aren’t always successful.
Chef Didier (Alain Chabat), after a tough battle against a giant turtle, orders the Tobacco Force to retreat to improve their teamwork. However, Lézardin, the Emperor of Evil, ruined their vacation by getting ready to annihilate the Earth. They must get a fresh start at the corporate retreat, or the world’s fate could be in jeopardy.
This exclusive scene from Smoking Causes Coughing, available only on Screen Rant, depicts the aftermath of their fight with the turtle, Tortusse. Before even calling the team meeting to order, the mood is established when Chef Didier (dressed like a demented ALF) compliments Nicotine on her breasts. But once they’re all safely inside the superhero vehicle, Didier praises them for their efficiency before condemning their deteriorating teamwork. Mercury’s pleading to be there for his family is met with a categorical refusal. After all, everyone on Earth relies on them.
Magnet Distributing has already had a successful year in 2023 and is handling the distribution of Smoking Causes Coughing. Noémie Merlant and Kit Harrington appear in the new comedy-drama Baby Ruby, and Lee Jung Jae (Squid Game) stars in the South Korean political thriller Hunt and the Spanish horror film Piggy. Smoking Causes Coughing is an unrated 80-minute film.
The film Smoking Causes Coughing will premiere on March 31 in limited theaters and via video on demand.
