The Giants will be back in “Godzilla & Kong: The New Empire” and will no longer be enemies but will fight together against a formidable enemy.
At the end of 2014, the studio Legendary sets the scene in the MonsterVerse with Godzilla. The Kaijū returns five years later in Godzilla II: King of the Monsters, after letting his fearsome opponent show up in 2017 with Kong: Skull Island. The two titans then face off in Godzilla vs. Kong, released in 2021.
At the end of the film, these two iconic monsters of the history of the seventh art go their separate ways after burying the hatchet. Judging from the first teaser and the title, they will have to join forces in the next opus of the MonsterVerse.
The production company, Legendary has just unveiled a preview of Godzilla & Kong: The New Empire.
In these images, a new enemy is enthroned above many bones. This “unknown and colossal threat”, according to the official synopsis, will “endanger” the existence of the Titans as well as that of humanity. The skulls of Godzilla and Kong appear at the end of the teaser. For the moment, the identity of what appears to be an ape has not been revealed, but some say it could be the son of the giant gorilla or one of its ancestors.
Director of Godzilla vs. Kong, Adam Wingard is expected to helm this new feature film. The cast should include Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens, Brian Tyree Henry, Rachel House and Fala Chen.
In the United States, the release date of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is set for March 15, 2024.
